The use of audio-visual aids in teaching!

TeachingIt is generally accepted that the best learning takes place when the greatest number of senses are stimulated. The use of devices or audio-visual materials will stimulate the greatest number of senses. For this reason, good teachers have always used devices or audio-visual materials. A device is any means, other than the subject-matter to the learner.

A device is an incentive introduced into the method of teaching for the purpose of stimulating the pupil and developing understanding through experiencing. The basis for all learning is experience, and usually the most effective type of learning is gained by concrete, direct, first-hand experience.
Teachers are often unable to give pupils first-hand experiences and resort to the written and oral use of words. The experienced teacher, however, realizes that the use of words alone cannot and will not, provide vivid learning experience.
Good teachers are constantly on the alert for methods and devices that will make learning meaningful. With the wise selection and use of a variety of instructional devices or audio-visual materials, experiences can b; provided that will develop understanding.
In directing the learning of the pupils through normal activities, the teacher will find that visual or audio-visual materials are used very extensively, Since the seventeenth century, when Comenius produced the Orbis Pictus, the extent to which teachers have been turning to visual materials as instructional aids has been increasing.

Responsibilities of a child to the parent in all stages of life

Image result for responsibility children to parent
The responsibilities of a child to the parents include the following
1. You ought to LOVE your parents.
LOVE is the only state of mind from which all the only other duties that you owe them, can arise. By love, we mean affection; and surely this is due to a father and mother. The very relation in which you stand to them demands this. If you are destitute of this, if you are without any propensity of heart towards them, you are in a strange and guilty state of mind. Until you are married, or are in prospect of it, they ought, in most cases, to be the supreme objects of your earthly affections. It is not enough for you to be respectful and obedient and even kind; but, where there exists no reasons for alienating your heart, you should be fond of them. It is of infinite importance that you should watch over the internal state of your mind, and not allow dislike, alienation, or indifference, to extinguish your love towards your parents. Do not take up a prejudice against them, nor allow an unfavorable impression to be made upon your mind. Respect and obedience, if they do not spring from love, are valueless in their nature, and very precarious in their existence.

Why Britain and British-Nigeria Must Leave Biafra Alone

Image result for britain/ nigeria
The scepter of Biafra torments Britain and Nigeria. British–Nigeria shall inevitably burst asunder, or be destroyed against its own wishes, the wishes of Britain, and any other benefactors intent on killing, subjugating, and plundering Biafra. Anyone scheming to keep the British-Nigeria one with Biafra, baselessly, for the sake of crude oil and gas resources, schemes but in vain.
As the clamor for the unconditional restoration of Biafra gains momentum, so also does the clamor for conspiracy, subjugation, and extermination projects by the enemies of progress, liberty, and freedom gain notoriety. The conglomerates of evil powers prowl in vain. They gloat but in vain to subdue the little Black wonder.  For a time, they held sway in a doom already sealed. Now and again they grope but in vain. Biafra and Radio Biafra are here to stay.

Inviting a War Criminal, Terrorist, Genocidist, and Boko Haram Founder to the White House

Inviting a War Criminal, Terrorist, Genocidist, and Boko Haram Founder to the White House
President Buhari has a long and indelible history of ruthlessness, nepotism, entitlement, and tyranny. Having very limited education—because there is no proof that he has ever attended any higher or military institution—it is no surprise then, that he has always resorted to force, intimidation and violence, rather than reason and argument, to achieve his political goals, as he has consistently demonstrated throughout his career. I regret that it would be impossible to aggregate this septuagenarian’s history of atrocities in such a limited space, but I will attempt however to sketch a composite.

CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

Citizenship is a statutory National Curriculum subject in state maintained secondary schools and a non-statutory subject with a national framework in primary schools in England.

What is citizenship education?
Citizenship involves people acting together to address issues of common concern to maintain our democratic culture and to improve society. To achieve this goal, Citizenship education teaches knowledge, understanding about politics, the law and the economy and skills to participate effectively and responsibly in public and democratic life.
Through citizenship education, students:
  • explore questions about democracy, justice, inequality, how we are governed and organized;
  • learn to work together to create solutions that try to address challenges facing neighborhoods and wider communities;
  • Develop political literacy to make a positive contribution to society as informed and responsible citizens.
Some things you should know about citizenship education…
  • Citizenship is the only subject in the national curriculum that teaches about the way democracy, politics, the economy and the law work.
  • Half a million young people have achieved a GCSE or A level qualification in citizenship to date since 2002.
  • Young people have initiated over 100,000 active citizenship projects in their communities since the GCSE was introduced.
  • Citizenship is not about indoctrination: teachers and local authorities are required by the Education Act 1996 to make sure that students are presented with different points of views so that they can make up their own minds.
  • Citizenship education is also not only a Labour project: it was introduced as a cross-curricular theme by a Conservative government in 1990.
  • It’s been in the national curriculum in secondary schools in England since 2002.
  • It was a long time coming – politicians and educators alike had been lobbying for citizenship to be a fundamental part of education for 100 years.

GOOD OF CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

A consideration of the issues surrounding the teaching of controversial issues serves only to underline the importance of good citizenship education from an early age.
If children become accustomed to discussing their differences in a rational way in the primary years, they are more likely to accept it as normal in their adolescence.
Citizenship education helps to equip young people to deal with situations of conflict and controversy knowledgeably and tolerantly. It helps to equip them to understand the consequences of their actions, and those of the adults around them.
Pupils learn how to recognize bias, evaluate argument, weigh evidence, look for alternative interpretations, viewpoints and sources of evidence; above all to give good reasons for the things they say and do, and to expect good reasons to be given by others.

REASONS FOR TEACHING CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION IN NIGERIA
The purposes of citizenship education are many and varied. They include socializing children against juvenile delinquency, disrespect for elders and all sharp practices that often metamorphose into full-blown crimes. Our youths have acquired international notoriety in such crimes as drug trafficking and addiction, child trafficking, swindling and advance free fraud. For the home-based, the contemporary social ills that plague the nation include: armed robbery, indolence, truancy, smuggling, dishonesty, sharp-practices, and most recently and dangerously kidnapping and suicide bombing. Those in higher institutions pride themselves in cultism, robbery, violence, gross indiscipline, examination mal-practice and campus unrests. There has been public out cry over unemployment against the government, but it has been observed that those who have gained one employment or the other demonstrate unprecedented truancy and ingratitude towards their government employers. The magnitude of dishonesty, embezzlement of public funds, looting government treasuries, diverting public funds and materials to private use, bribery and corruption they practise is inexplicable. Ndukwe (2013) cried out:
Two distinct challenges are insidiously eating away at whatevergains Nigeria has made in the economic arena as well as its socio-cultural stage since pursuing a pro-democratic agenda. What are they? Insecurity and Inconsistent power supply. Lawlessness is a plague that steals the light of a nation. A lawless State is rife with insecurity and its citizens are slaves to such order. Nigeria is witnessing analarming trend in lawlessness and insecurity. There is hardly any breaking news in the mainstream media without an account of some form of security challenges, acts of violence, ethno-centered strife or religious fuelled clashes. It is either Boko Haram in the Northern corridor or Kidnapping in the South-South and South East geopolitical zone. (The National Question, Monday n20 – 23 May, 2013, p.1). There is still mutual distrust among the different ethnicities in Nigeria against each other. These and other vices have for decades ravaged our nation due to very poor socialization or complete ignorant of citizenship education. The purpose of education for citizenship is to create sufficient awareness, sensitize both the old and the young to imbibe the spirit of self-reliance, good citizenship, respect for our national emblems and ethics and the desire to build a strong and reliable nation. For our purpose, this paper restricts our discussion to the under-mentioned areas, since they highlight the basic aspects of citizenship education.

US to deploy small number of special forces to Syria in advisory role

WASHINGTON, Oct 30 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama plans to deploy a small number of special operations forces to Syria to advise rebels Washington deems moderate, U.S. sources said on Friday, a step he has long resisted to avoid getting dragged into another war in the Middle East.
A man walks through dust at a site damaged from what activists said was an airstrike by forces loyal to Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on the main field hospital in the town of Douma, eastern Ghouta in Damascus October 29, 2015.Obama was expected to send fewer than 60 special operations troops, said congressional sources who spoke on condition of anonymity. One U.S. official said the number was likely to be in the range of 20 to 30 but could not provide details.
U.S. officials stressed the forces were not meant to engage in front-line combat but rather to advise and assist moderate rebels. One official said their key role would be "logistical" to ensure that weapons and other supplies are delivered to the moderate forces whom the United States supports.
The sources said the move, expected to be announced later on Friday, reflected a wider strategy of strengthening moderate rebels in Syria even as Washington intensifies its efforts to find a diplomatic solution to end to the four-and-a-half year Syrian civil war in which at least 200,000 people have died.

Processed meats do cause cancer - WHO

Bacon sarnieProcessed meats - such as bacon, sausages and ham - do cause cancer, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Its report said 50g of processed meat a day - less than two slices of bacon - increased the chance of developing colorectal cancer by 18%.
Meanwhile, it said red meats were "probably carcinogenic" but there was limited evidence.
The WHO did stress that meat also had health benefits.
Processed meat is meat that has been modified to increase its shelf-life or alter its taste - such as by smoking, curing or adding salt or preservatives.
It is these additions which could be increasing the risk of cancer. High temperature cooking, such as on a barbeque, can also create carcinogenic chemicals.

ENUGU—Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kalu, who was arrested at Golden Tulip Hotel in Lagos by the Department of State  Service,DSS, after he returned from  the   United Kingdom has been granted bail by the Abuja Municipal Council Magistrate court where he was secretly arraigned by the DSS. Director of the Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu

It was widely reported yesterday that Nnamdi Kanu was released on bail but has not been able to meet his bail conditions.

Politics Why PDP Senators Did Not Ask Amaechi Any Question During Screening

Senators belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP refused to question Rotimi Amaechi during his ministerial screening because they felt betrayed by their APC counterparts.

Rotimi Amaechi.jpg

Punch reports that the PDP senators alleged that senators belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) betrayed the agreement they had not to screen the former governor of Rivers state given the report of the panel that investigated the petitions against him.

A PDP Senator who spoke anonymously said, ''During the closed session, chairman of the ethics committee, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, briefed us on the report and indicated that the committee reported that the issue regarding Amaechi’s petition was in court and that the Senate should suspend action on his screening, pending the resolution of the court issues''.

The PDP senators were also said to have agreed to the suspension of the debate on the report of the ethics committee only if their APC colleagues would also ask the Rivers nominee to take a bow and go so as not to “cause controversy.”

CUPS Address To Buhari On Radio Biafra

Editor’s note, president and founder of CUPS (Citizens United for Peace and Security), writes open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, sharing his views on why it’s high time to shut down Radio Biafra.

Why Radio Biafra is a terrorist organisation

As you might have been briefed by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the State Security Service (SSS), and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), to the effect that Radio Biafra operating under the aegis of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is a terrorist organisation, whose sole aim is to cause civil disorder and the eventual disintegration of Nigeria, we write you on this matter of grave national importance.
Your Excellency, it is rather unfortunate and regrettable that some fellow Nigerians are so disenfranchised, such that their capacity for common sense reasoning seems to have gone obsolete. Otherwise, how does one explain this bizarre phenomenon whereby a criminal with zero ideology and twisted morals, like the proprietor of Radio Biafra, can have a following of any description in Nigeria?

Radio Biafra broadcasts cause civil unrest

Today, Radio Biafra broadcasts lies, abuse, and hatred, with a view to causing civil unrest and eventual destruction of Nigeria. Cursing Nigerian leaders, calling Nigeria a “zoo” and Nigerians as “animals” is nothing but provocation and grandeur treachery. The attempts so far made by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to jam the treacherous Radio Biafra have not been successful. In any case, we are of the view that jamming the pirate station is like taking medicine to cure the symptoms of an illness, rather than curing the root cause of the illness itself.
The British Police and MI5 cannot deny knowledge of the threats posed to the corporate existence of Nigeria by this pirate radio station and its criminal proprietors. We have already witnessed senseless demonstrations and riots in certain states in the South South and South East. We have also heard how enemies of the Nigerian state, who brought us misery, death, and destruction over the last sixteen years are already taking advantage of this volatile situation to cause even more confusion among the population.

It is better to deal with pirate station decisively

Your Excellency, we at CUPS contend that it is better to deal with this matter decisively while it is in infancy, before things get out of order. We strongly believe that following diplomatic channels to shut down Radio Biafra is the most effective solution under the current circumstances.
To this end, it is our humble opinion, your Excellency, that you summon the British High Commissioner in Abuja to make Nigeria’s stand clear on the matter. Nigeria’s stand on IPOB and Biafra is no different to Britain’s stand on dealing with the Irish Republican Army (IRA), and its stand on Scottish independence from the United Kingdom.
Your Excellency, Nigeria is a major diplomatic and trading partner with Britain. This strategic relationship can be brought to bear, in order to bring this matter to an amicable conclusion.
May God Save Nigeria and Nigerians. Amen.

New Hartford, New York (CNN)Christopher Leonard spoke quietly, his head bowed, as he described the day his brother died.
One minute, they were standing in front of their church and facing questions from the pastor. Then, he said, the beating began.
"It was a black cord about 4 feet long," he testified in court on Wednesday. "It was folded twice."
The 17-year-old could be a key witness in a case that started in a small church in upstate New York and has drawn national attention. Police say Christopher Leonard and his brother Lucas were beaten in the sanctuary of Word of Life Christian Church in New Hartford, New York, after Lucas expressed a desire to leave the congregation.
Lucas Leonard, 19, was later pronounced dead at a hospital. He suffered injuries so severe that emergency room doctors thought he had been shot, police said.
"He was laying on the ground moaning. ... I knew something wasn't right. ... I rushed over and saw he wasn't breathing, so I tried to give him CPR," Christopher Leonard testified Wednesday, describing the moments after the beating.
The accusations have shaken the tiny town about 250 miles north of New York City. The boys' parents, Bruce T. Leonard, 65, and Deborah R. Leonard, 59, are charged with first-degree manslaughter. Four other church members -- including Sara Ferguson, the brothers' stepsister -- were charged with second-degree assault, also a felony. All have pleaded not guilty.

Beijing looks west to keep TPP in check

KATSUJI NAKAZAWA, Nikkei senior staff writer
BEIJING -- After suffering a serious setback in its bid to effectively divvy up the Pacific, China is shifting the focus of its foreign policy. Beijing is now aiming to become the major Eurasian power by creating a sprawling economic zone linking East and West by land and sea.
China wants to establish a "new Silk Road economic zone" to serve as a counterbalance to the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a free trade pact that brings together a dozen Pacific Rim nations.
Beijing's desire to control a significant portion of the Pacific became clear in June 2013, when President Xi Jinping made his first trip to the U.S. after taking office. "The Pacific Ocean has enough space for both China and the U.S.," Xi said at the start of talks with President Barack Obama in California.

OUR DREAM TO ACTUALIZE BIAFRA

Men sing anthem alongside Biafran flag
In a quiet, dusty and fairly secluded corner of Enugu city, south-eastern Nigeria, a group of men unfurled a homemade flag and then sang.
"Biafra will live forever. Nothing will stop us," was the gist of their anthem in the Igbo language.
They were not exactly belting it out and instead of hoisting the flag up a pole, it was tied to a metal gate. But there is good reason for discretion - in the eyes of the authorities the gathering is illegal.
On 5 November, 100 men and women were arrested as they marched peacefully through the city's streets after raising the Biafran flag.
They were all imprisoned and accused of treason but then released when the charges were dropped. It appears the government is determined to ensure any agitation for secession is not allowed to gather momentum.
Forty-two years after the end of the devastating civil war in which government troops fought and defeated Biafran secessionists, the dream of independence has not completely died.
"No amount of threats or arrests will stop us from pursuing our freedom - self-determination for Biafrans," said Edeson Samuel, national chairman of the Biafran Zionist Movement (BZM).
